Science week took place from the 10th-17th of November 2019. All classes had great fun taking part in experiments during the week.
Senior Infants made their own lava lamps using 4 simple ingredients- water, vegetable oil, food colouring and alka seltzer tablets. The alka seltzer tablets created the bubbles in the lava lamp.
Senior Infants also explored and experimented with raisins. They discovered that raisins are heavier than water and so they sink to the bottom when placed in a cup of water. However they float up and down in 7up because of the bubbles. They children had great fun watching their raisins 'dance'.
To finish up the children recorded their experiments in their 'Science Week' Booklets. Science Week 2019 was a great hit in the Senior Infant Classroom!
First class worked on Light from the Energy and Forces strand of the curriculum. They investigated if a material was transparent, translucent or opaque. They tested wood, clear glass, newspaper, fabric and a book. The class had great fun predicting, investigating and then recording. Take a look at the pictures below:
