It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

The children here in Scoil Chlann Naofa have already began the countdown for Christmas. They enjoyed doing some Christmas art last week and they loved getting to see it on display in the hallways. Stay tuned to the blog for more Christmas art in the coming weeks....

Christmas show 2019

Junior Infants, Senior Infants & First class visited St. Joseph's Temperance Hall, Longford on Friday, 29th of November to see a Christmas Panto Show called "Santa's Fairytale Christmas". Children from The Hunt N.S. came on the day as well. All the children had a great time at the show and they loved helping save Santa from the wicked witch. Everyone left the show with a smile on their face after a thoroughly enjoyable show.
Well done to all the actors on stage and to all the staff who looked after us in the hall.

Houses and Homes in Senior Infants

Senior Infants have spent the month of November learning about all the different types of houses and homes we have here in Ballinamore. The children loved doing this theme in Aistear as well. The children enjoyed being in role play at the building site, making 2D shape houses at the art station, constructing houses using blocks at the construction station and playing in small world. Look at the pictures below to see some of the children in action during Aistear.

Team Hope shoeboxes galore!

Well done and congratulations to all the boys and girls who contributed to Team Hope by making Christmas shoeboxes again this year. The response to the charity was huge here in Scoil Chlann Naofa. A big thank you to all the parents who helped their children take part in such a worthy cause.

Science Week 2019

Science week took place from the 10th-17th of November 2019. All classes had great fun taking part in experiments during the week.

Senior Infants made their own lava lamps using 4 simple ingredients- water, vegetable oil, food colouring and alka seltzer tablets. The alka seltzer tablets created the bubbles in the lava lamp.

Senior Infants also explored and experimented with raisins. They discovered that raisins are heavier than water and so they sink to the bottom when placed in a cup of water. However they float up and down in 7up because of the bubbles. They children had great fun watching their raisins 'dance'.

To finish up the children recorded their experiments in their 'Science Week' Booklets. Science Week 2019 was a great hit in the Senior Infant Classroom!

First class worked on Light from the Energy and Forces strand of the curriculum. They investigated if a material was transparent, translucent or opaque. They tested wood, clear glass, newspaper, fabric and a book. The class had great fun predicting, investigating and then recording. Take a look at the pictures below:
